This is the first Hearthstone home the family built at Boot Ranch — a half-acre Overlook Cabin drawn by Charles Travis of Chas Architects and raised to the ranch's exacting design guidelines. Years later the same owners came back and asked Hearthstone to build a second, larger home on the same ranch. This cabin is where that story starts. Boot Ranch is an artful expression of luxurious Texas ranch-style living. From custom Homesteads to Country Homes to Overlook Cabins and Sunday Houses, every residence at the ranch is designed to embrace the Hill Country's natural terrain and long vistas — while adhering to the highest standards of construction, detail, and design.
For Homesite 3, architect Charles Travis of Chas Architects composed a cabin that sits low into its half-acre — a stone base rising to a hand-worked log body, wrapped in deep porches that catch the ranch light and the ridgeline breeze. The materials read as Hill Country from the road: local limestone, cedar, and clay-warm stucco set against the standing-seam metal that ranch country wears well.
Inside, Hearthstone's log and timber does the structural work and the finish work at the same time. Exposed trusses carry the great room. Hewn logs form the walls. Wide-plank floors, hand-forged iron, and a stone hearth pull the palette together. It is a small cabin that lives large — designed to gather a family, a few friends, and a long afternoon on the porch.
The cabin did what a first Hearthstone home is supposed to do: it earned the second one. The owners lived in it, learned how the logs move with the weather, watched a Hearthstone frame settle into a Boot Ranch ridge — and then commissioned a larger Hearthstone home on the same mountain. Charles Travis drew both. Hearthstone raised both. Two homes, one mountain.
