An oak frame raised for a life spent close to horses.

The clients came to Hearthstone with four generations of family memory on the land and a plan to build a house that would still be standing when their grandchildren inherited it. Timber frame was the only honest answer.

Every bent was cut from oak at our Newport shop and pre-fit on the shop floor before shipping. The frame reads from every room: soaring hammer-beam trusses over the great hall, curved braces stepping through the loft galleries, and a wrought-iron rail system tying the second floor to the timber itself. A carved-limestone horse relief set into the great-hall chimney reads as a family crest.

The private wing is stitched into the same frame — a glass-walled fitness room opening off a chandelier-lit gallery, exposed timber walls left with the mill's original chalk marks, and casework built to the same standard as the frame around it. The house delivers modern comfort inside timber that will outlast the mortgage by two centuries.

Twenty years on, the Thompsons came back to Hearthstone for a second frame — an open-air oak pavilion sited beside the main house. Same shop, same oak, same joinery. It is on the site as The Thompson Pavilion — the truest audit a builder can be paid.
