Live Edge

Timberlake®

Full-scribe logs that keep the silhouette of the tree.

The Style

Live Edge

Live Edge — our Timberlake® series — is the least altered of the three styles. The log is left round, bark removed, natural taper and character retained. Each course is scribed to the one below so the wall closes on itself without a chink line.

This is the profile most people picture when they hear log home — but the craft underneath is the opposite of what most people imagine. There is no gasket, no filler, no chink covering a gap. Each log is scanned, scribed, and cut so its underside is the exact inverse of the log below it. Wood meets wood.

Because the joint is scribed rather than milled, no two logs are interchangeable. Every log is numbered, every corner drawn, and the whole wall is dry-fit in Newport before it leaves the shop. What arrives on the site is a puzzle that has already been solved.

The result is a wall that reads as pure timber — the tree, not a product. Interior surfaces show cambium, sapwood color, occasional knot and check. The house looks grown, not assembled.

The Build

Four moves, in order.

01

Cure the log

We prefer standing dead — trees that dried in place and stopped moving before they came down. Movement in the wall is measured in millimeters, not inches.

02

Scribe course by course

Each log is set on top of the previous course, scanned, and scribed. The underside is then cut to that scribe on the CNC.

03

Dry-fit in Newport

The entire wall is stacked in the shop, corrected, then disassembled. Nothing about the fit is left to the site.

04

Raise

Logs go up in the order they were fit. Weathertight in a matter of days, not weeks.
